Utilizing Features of Verbs in Statistical Zero Pronoun Resolution for Japanese Speech
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper proposes a statistical zero pronoun resolution method that utilizes features of verbs. In Japanese speech, the subject is often omitted, especially when it is the first person. To resolve such zero pronouns, features related to the verbs such as functional expressions play important roles. However, recent state-of-the-art zero-pronoun resolution systems lack these features because they are mainly designed for written texts such as newspaper articles, in which first person subjects are rare. We show that a set of verbal features has the ability to distinguish first persons from others in monologue transcriptions, and this improves the accuracy of zero pronoun resolution with statistical machine learning.

Improving Japanese Zero Pronoun Resolution by Global Word Sense Disambiguation
This paper proposes unsupervised word sense disambiguation based on automatically constructed case frames and its incorporation into our zero pronoun resolution system. The word sense disambiguation is applied to verbs and nouns. We consider that case frames define verb senses and semantic features in a thesaurus define noun senses, respectively, and perform sense disambiguation by selecting th...
متن کاملZero Pronoun Resolution in a Machine Translation System by using Japanese to English Verbal Semantic Attributes
A method of anaphoral resolution of zero pronouns in Japanese language texts using the verbal semantic attributes is suggested. This method focuses attention on the semantic attributes of verbs and examines the context from the relationship between the semantic attributes of verbs governing zero pronouns and the semantic attributes of verbs governing their referents. The semantic attributes of ...
متن کاملZero Pronoun Resolution can Improve the Quality of J-E Translation
In Japanese, particularly, spoken Japanese, subjective, objective and possessive cases are very often omitted. Such Japanese sentences are often translated by Japanese-English statistical machine translation to the English sentence whose subjective, objective and possessive cases are omitted, and it causes to decrease the quality of translation. We performed experiments of J-E phrase based tran...
متن کاملA Probabilistic Model for Japanese Zero Pronoun Resolution Integrating Syntactic and Semantic Features
This paper proposes a method to resolve Japanese zero pronouns by identifying their antecedents. Our method uses a probabilistic model, which is decomposed into syntactic and semantic properties. A syntactic model is trained based on corpora annotated with anaphoric relations. However, a semantic model is trained based on a large-scale unannotated corpus, so as to counter the data sparseness pr...
متن کاملA Probabilistic Method for Analyzing Japanese Anaphora Integrating Zero Pronoun Detection and Resolution
This paper proposes a method to analyze Japanese anaphora, in which zero pronouns (omitted obligatory cases) are used to refer to preceding entities (antecedents). Unlike the case of general coreference resolution, zero pronouns have to be detected prior to resolution because they are not expressed in discourse. Our method integrates two probability parameters to perform zero pronoun detection ...
